Holiday Ride Campaign Off To A Poor Start In Perth County

Perth County OPP were called to three separate collision involving alcohol on the first weekend of the holiday RIDE campaign.

Police have charged a 28-year-old St. Marys man with impaired driving after a vehicle ended up in the ditch on Road 164 in West Perth on Friday night.

On Saturday night, a car collided with a pick up on Perth Rd. 180 in West Perth, and police charged a 41-year-old Huron East resident with impaired driving.

Early Sunday morning, a 28-year-old Niagara Falls man was charged with impaired driving after a single-vehicle collision in North Perth.

In all, eight ride checks were conducted throughout the county, and a West Perth spot check resulted in a 24-year-old Bluewater man being charged with impaired driving.

“It is disappointing to see that these four people chose to put other members of the community at risk by selfishly drinking and driving. This even after the collective efforts of Perth County OPP, OPP HSD and Stratford police in conducting R.I.D.E. over the weekend. We will continue to encourage the reporting of suspected impaired driving. The OPP will continue R.I.D.E. programs throughout the holiday season to stop this crime and keep our communities safe," says Inspector Rob Scott, detachment commander for Perth County OPP.

The public is encouraged to use one of these options. If you plan on drinking or consuming drugs, plan to not drive. Instead, arrange for a designated driver, take a taxi, stay overnight or take public transit. If you suspect that someone is driving or is about to drive impaired, call 911 and report it.
