The grass is gone, the ground is dug up, and work is under way on improvements to the running track and lower sports field at F.E. Madill Secondary School in Wingham.
The much-needed improvements are the brain child of a local community group, the Building Bridges To Our Future Campaign, and just one part of the overall project which also includes the final phase of a new playground at neighbouring Maitland River Elementary School.
The group is looking for funding through an annual competition called the AVIVA Community Fund; municipalities and communities from across the province compete for grant money, anywhere between $50,000 and $100,000 toward community betterment projects.
With voting already now under way, the folks behind the Building Bridges To Our Future Campaign are in need of community support in the form of online votes.
"The Aviva Community Fund Competition is held in the fall each year. The first round is based on voting and the top fifteen finalists with the highest votes move on to the final round," says Teresa Farrell-Becker, co-chair of the Building Bridges To Our Futures Campaign.
A total of $100,000 in funding would help complete the final phase of the new playground at the Maitland River Elementary School.
Those who register to vote will be allowed to vote a total of eighteen times, all of which can be cast at once.
