Stratford National Stadium Seeks Aviva Funds For Refurbishment

Efforts to refurbish one of Canada's oldest ball parks in continuous use are underway, and residents can help secure funding for the project.

Stratford Minor Baseball managed to get the Stratford National Stadium project nominated for the Aviva Community Fund.

Spokesman Dan Graver says the facility was built during the great depression in 1934 by the local Canadian National Railway Association Workers through payroll deductions.

The original stands were made from reclaimed boxcar lumber.

Montreal Canadian Hockey legend Howie Morenz worked the shops there before his hockey career. Others who played ball in the stadium went on to the Major leagues.

Graver hopes refurbishing the stadium will help bring senior Inter County baseball back to Stratford.
