Bruce Power, the County of Bruce, the municipalities of Kincardine and Saugeen Shores, and the province are involved in a full-scale, nuclear emergency exercise this week.
The exercise, called Huron Resolve, will simulate an emergency that will require coordination between a wide-range of organizations.
Residents can expect to see an increase in emergency vehicles and response personnel in the area as the exercise gets underway.
The goal of the exercise is to test emergency protocols and procedures. The focus will be on the Provincial Nuclear Emergency Response Plan and how the government, municipalities and emergency personnel would respond in the event of a nuclear emergency.
The Kincardine Davidson Centre will be used as an Evacuation Centre and Reception Centre as part of the Municipal Emergency Response Plan on Thursdsay. The Canadian Red Cross will be setting up at the Davidson Centre along with Salvation Army and St. John Ambulance as part of the emergency response plan.
Exercises like Huron Resolve provide an opportunity for responding agencies to test their plans and work side by side. The last nuclear exercise was held in October of 2012.
