The President of Wind Concerns Ontario says the announcement from the Province this afternoon that they're suspending the Large Renewable Energy Procurement program that was to start at the beginning of next year is good news, albeit a little late.
But Jane Wilson also suggests a number of projects that have contracts but don't have Renewable Energy Approvals at this time should also be cancelled.
She says Amherst Island is one of the most glaring examples of inappropriate locations where nature groups in the area have argued it's the worst possible place for a wind energy project and construction hasn't started there yet.
Wilson points out the Independent Electricity Systems Operator has told the Province there's no need for more power and no indication there will be increased demand in the next ten years it could reasonably be argued that it's time to put a stop to any more projects.
Wilson also suggests losing the recent by-election has helped the government understand what people have been saying for some time.
She also believes the fact that 115 municipalities, or one-quarter of the municipalities in the Province, saying they want some changes to the process was a factor.
Wilson say no one will argue against clean energy and its benefits to the environment but she contends the way the government has gone implementing the program just isn't working and it's time the government re-considered the program.
