No Budget For Huron East Shared Services Report

The mayor of Huron East says his council wants to continue the discussion about sharing services with other municipalities.

But Berne MacLellan says councillors also don't feel they can effectively use the North Huron - Morris-Turnberry agreement or any other model.

They need a report done by an outside consultant to determine where there would be savings for them and where sharing would not result in savings. And MacLellan adds they don't have any money in the budget for that kind of a report this year.

MacLellan says he understands the concern over reduced staffing levels but he points out that won't effect front-line staff because it will still take for instance, one person to operate a snow plow.

MacLellan says sharing services will likely translate into changes in staffing levels but he believes their greater obligation is to save taxes for their ratepayers than to preserve staff positions.
