E.Coli Levels Above Health Standards At Huron, Bruce, Grey Beaches

A number of Lake Huron Beaches have tested over the provincial standard for E.coli, but levels are still below Health Canada standards for safe swimming.

In Bruce Grey, tests this week in Kincardine, Blue Mountain, Port Elgin Main, and Southampton beaches show E.coli levels ranging from 143 Colony Forming Units of bacteria per 100 mL of water in Kincardine, to 300 mL at Port Elgin's Main Beach.

The Health Canada standard is 400 colony forming E.coli units per 100 mL.

Huron County uses the provincial standard for safe swimming which is 100 E.coli units per 100 mL of water

Huron County Beach Info tweeted yesterday that Port Albert, Goderich Main, Black's Point, Houston Heights and St. Joseph tested over the provincial bacterial standard for E.coli on July 27.
