Two young women were rescued from the Maitland River in Goderich and taken to hospital by air ambulance Tuesday afternoon.

Kristen Way and her father were cycling on the trail above the river when they heard the cries for help.

Kristen says the women had climbed over the guard rail and fencing on the Menesetung Bridge and fell into the river.

Two men swam out to the victims and held them above water until paramedics arrived.

A 20 year old Goderich woman is in hospital with serious injuries.
OPP continue to investigate to find out how the women fell.
