Man On Hydro Tower Near Stratford

Emergency crews were able to coax a 27-year old man down from a 100 ft hydro tower today.

The situation started around 5:40am this morning when Stratford Police Service got a call from a resident reporting her 27-year-old son was missing and last seen earlier in the morning. Police located the individual perched on a 100 ft hydro tower located at Perth Line 122. Negotiators immediately began a dialog with the individual who was in crisis.

Hydro One shut power to the tower, isolating it from the rest of the hydro grid.

Along with Stratford police on scene were, North Perth Fire Department, Stratford Fire Department, Perth County EMS, Hydro One, and the Perth County OPP.

As negotiations continued the male became comfortable with Stratford police negotiators and began to talk about coming down off of the tower. A short time later the male agreed to come down with the assistance of the Stratford and the North Perth fire departments. The male was lowered safely where he was transported to the Stratford Hospital for observation.

At this time no charges have been laid.

During the incident power was cut to nearly 5,000 Hydro One customers and thousands more served by local utilities in parts of Huron County and Perth County including Stratford.

Power was restored shortly before 11:30am.
