Dr. Hazel Lynn Attends Final Grey Bruce Board Of Health Meeting

Dr. Hazel Lynn attended her final Grey Bruce Board of Health meeting Friday as Medical Officer of Health. Lynn retires at the end of this month.

She points to overseeing the creation of a new health unit headquarters in Owen Sound as one of her major accomplishments.

As well, she's proud she was able to institute the concept of four community health teams in Grey and Bruce.

"Our plan of community engagement with our four teams is quite unique. It's being copied now in a a lot of rural places. It makes sense that you have a team that knows that community, that can work with them. So I think that's going to be a legacy that will go on," says Lynn.

Board of Health Chair Kevin Eccles says Lynn will be missed and calls her a true champion of public health.

"One of the first words I'll use is inspiring. She's inspired the community to be proactive and to be accepting of their own health and educational is the second word that I would use," says Eccles.

Lynn plans to relax and enjoy her grandchildren in the future. As well she'll do some teaching and attend conferences.

She does not rule out doing relief work in some part of the world, which she's done in the past in Nigeria.
