Prescription Drug Drop Off Days Successful In Midwestern Ontario

The OPP in Midwestern Ontario were successful in ensuring prescription drugs don't end up in the wrong hands.

Huron County OPP and Rexall Pharmacy in Goderich hosted an annual prescription drug drop off day on May 21, and total of 4 kg of medication was turned in for destruction

About two dozen people dropped off a variety of medication including Schedule I prescription medication such as Hydromorphone, Codeine and Oxycodone.

Wellington County OPP collected just under 5 kg of unused medication during the annual collection, including 1,500 pills of various types.

Wellington Detachment Commander Inspector Scott Lawson says the inappropriate use, abuse, diversion or disposal of prescription narcotics and controlled substances is a public health and safety issue.

He says it is unlawful to possess prescribed medication without a prescription, and it is unlawful to sell it to another person.
