North Huron Community Digs Deep To Support Local Initiative

The Building Bridges to Out Future Campaign held its first annual gala and silent auction on Saturday night to raise money toward upgrades and renovations to the sports fields at F.E Madill Secondary School in Wingham.

The sold-out event at the Knights of Columbus Hall in Wingham raised a total of $57,000.

North Huron Councillor Trevor Seip was at the event and presented North Huron council with an update Monday night on the community support.

"Fifty seven thousand dollars from a committee that has taken it really to heart about this project and you know, it's a great thing, a community driven project; it's a community sport not only here in North Huron but outside of the community as well," Seip told fellow members of North Huron Council.

The event was shoulder to shoulder with community members and supporters, with hundreds of items up on the auction block, something Councillor Seip says was very nice to see.

"To take it into context, everybody went together to try and help this initiative move forward and I'm so glad to be a part of it as a liaison from council so it's a great thing, and it's great for the community," adds Seip.

Roughly half of the money ($25,000) raised came from corporate sponsors alone.
