Grey Bruce Medical Officer Encourages Residents To Join Wind Study

The Grey Bruce Health Unit is encouraging people to participate in an Ontario-wide long term study of the health effects of wind turbines.

It's a response to requests from several municipalities to study people who say they're affected by wind turbines.

Medical Officer of Health Doctor Hazel Lynn says the health unit is not mandated nor has the resources to conduct such a study.

She says people can enroll in a study by an independent body called the Ontario Health Study, which is following thousands of people over a period of decades.

"People who are having health effects now, I cannot say that (turbines) caused it. There's no way I can do that. I may suspect it does but until you've got scientific studies you can't actually prove it," says Doctor Lynn.

People can enroll in the Ontario Health Study on line. It looks at people already living with wind turbines as well as before the turbines are built.
