Bruce Telecom Governance Changing

Kincardine Council has passed the proposed 2016 budget for Bruce Telecom, and will now move forward with plans to change the governance structure.

Bruce Telecom board Chair Holly Robinson says they're pleased that council has decided to retain the business following the aborted sale to Eastlink.

The Bruce Telecom Municipal Services Board will now be converted to a Muncipal Services Corporation.

"Moving to a Municipal Services Corporation will enable the Bruce Telecom Board and the senior management team to operate in a more robust and agile fashion," says Robinson. "The current set-up as a Municipal Services Board acts as a constraint in this highly competitive and rapidly evolving telecommunications sector."

Mayor Anne Eadie adds it is the best solution.

“Since the decision was taken a year ago to keep and support the enterprise we believe this is the best solution to equip the business to manage its affairs and position itself for success," says Eadie.

The process will involve public consultation, and should wrap up by the end of the year.
