Clean Water Project Supports Hundreds Of Huron Initiatives

An initiative for clean water supported 290 projects through Huron County in 2015.

The Ausable Bayfield Conservation Authority's Kate Monk says the Huron Clean Water Project is funded by the county but administered jointly by the Ausable Bayfield and Maitland Valley conservation authorities.

The project celebrated its tenth anniversary last year by funding 290 projects with a total of about $400,000 from the county.

Monk says one of the most popular programs was a new one that encouraged the use of cover crops.  She adds tree planting also remains a very popular program and both of them are effective in controlling erosion.

Monk also points out that every dollar of funding from the county triggers another $2 to $3 in spending on projects in the county.
