MPP Protests Delayed Natural Gas Line To Milverton

The MPP for Perth-Wellington has written to the Ontario Energy Board (OEB) to express his dissatisfaction with the delayed Union Gas submission to extend natural gas to Milverton.

Randy Pettapiece has joined officials from the Township of Perth East in sharing his dismay at the decision. He says the project is a major priority for the township, and must go ahead.

He has also written to the premier, the minister of energy and the minister of economic development, employment and infrastructure asking them to review the matter immediately.

The OEB will delay natural gas to milverton for about a year, meaning residents and businesses will lose $1.3-million a year in energy savings.

Pettapiece will meet with Union Gas officials and the Township of Perth East next week to talk about their next steps.

He says residents may not be able to take advantage of the recently announced energy retrofit program.

Pettapiece says it seems the Liberals are once again leaving rural Ontario out in the cold.
