A Bruce Peninsula man is facing further charges after a special constable was assaulted at an Owen Sound courthouse.
The Owen Sound Police Service says on Friday around 10am, a male prisoner became irate at the conclusion of his brief court appearance and broke a section of wall inside the prisoner’s box. When two special constables attempted to restrain the man, he assaulted one of the officers. The officers eventually subdued the man in a holding cell at the courthouse.
The assaulted officer was taken to hospital to be treated with serious but non-life threatening injuries. He has since been released from hospital, and is expected to make a full recovery in a few weeks time.
A 33-year-old Bruce Peninsula man, who was already facing criminal charges, has now been charged with aggravated assault on a peace officer and mischief under $5,000.
