Access To Funding Now Closer For G2G Group

Huron County Council has approved an agreement with the Goderich to Guelph Rail Trail that will allow the G2G group to access funding.

CAO Brenda Orchard explains one of the conditions for the funding is it has to flow through a municipal partner.

They need seed money in order to qualify for the grant. In this case they need $70,000, but the Regional Tourism Organization, of which they're a member, has already pledged $35,000 and G2G has promised to fundraise the rest.

"Part of that agreement means they would have to come up with $70,000 in partnering money, you have to have your own seed money to get the grant money, but G2G's commitment to council is that they are raising the $70,000," says Orchard.

Orchard points out there is a potential liability to the county, but if G2G doesn't raise the money, council would still have the option of withdrawing it's financial support or voting to make up the difference.

"Council has agreed to sign the contract under the understanding that G2G will raise the remaining money so there is a potential liability, but it still is in council's hands," adds Orchard.

The G2G Trail Group is hosting an Open House from 2pm-4pm this afternoon at the Blyth Arena.
