Huron-Bruce MP To Push For DGR

Huron-Bruce Ben Lobb says he will approach the government's minister of environment and climate change and ask her to approve the proposed DGR in Bruce County.

OPG wants to create a space to store low to intermediate nucelar waste near Bruce Power.

Lobb says it comes down to science.

"The panel's report was clear on the DGR for low and intermediate waste that it would be safe and I feel the project should go ahead. Myself, I've written a letter to the minister to let science be her guide," says Lobb. "The key point is that we have to make sure it is safe, and that it protects all residents in Huron-Bruce and it protects all Canadian citizens as well as our fresh water. It's backed by science and it's been studied for ten years now, so let's move forward."

Dozens of Canadian and American groups, municipalities and First Nations communities want the project stopped.

MP's return to Ottawa next week.
