MPP Says Families Deserve Cost Estimates For Carbon Cap, Trade Plan

  1. The Progressive Conservative critic for the environment says the province needs to explain the costs associated with the proposed cap-and-trade scheme.
Huron Bruce MPP Lisa Thompson explains the province announced the carbon trading scheme a year ago, and it's time families were told about the financial impact.

"This plan will impact Ontarians on everything from fuel, to groceries, to manufactured goods," continued MPP Thompson. "The Government has an obligation to tell Ontario families what this plan will cost them per year before proceeding with cap-and-trade."

"The Minister for Environment and Climate Change has even admitted they are not focusing on the cost of the plan, and that there has been little to no discussion on the issue." While Environment Minister Glen Murray did not answer Thompson's questions about cost, he did say businesses can reduce operating costs under the system.

He explains that the cap and trade system has actually increased economic growth in other jurisdictions.
