New Interest in Former Bluewater Youth Centre

Members of Huron County's Economic Development Board have finally had a chance to tour the vacant former Bluewater Youth Centre, south of Goderich.

Huron County C-A-O Brenda Orchard explains the county as well as Goderich and Central Huron have been waiting since the Centre closed for Infrastructure Ontario to put the property up for sale, so she met with I-O officials recently to ask how far along the process was and what they could do to help it along.

Orchard says they were told no decision would be made until the 2017 – 2018 fiscal year but they were very co-operative during the meeting and she's optimistic that date might now be moved forward.

Orchard adds the mayors of Goderich and Central Huron as well as Central Huron's C-A-O were part of the tour along with Infrastructure Ontario staff.   The County cannot own land for economic development but the lower-tier municipalities can.

Orchard points out they still don't know what they would do with the property and buildings if and when it becomes available, but that will be addressed in the county's strategic plan.

Orchard adds the tour was a good opportunity for members of the Economic Development Board to actually see the inside of the building and see the building is still in good condition.
