Grey Bruce Health Welcomes 15 New Physicians This Year

A record 15 new physicians have joined Grey Bruce Health Services over the past year.

The doctors have filled retirements, departures and other vacancies .

Grey Bruce health credits the collaboration and support among local volunteer physicians recruitment committees, full time recruiters, and medical affairs staff.

GBHS also welcomed two new Family Medicine Residents from McMaster University who will train with the Owen Sound Family Health Team for two years.

The health services medical education program serves about 20 medical students or residents per month who work withing one or more the the six hospital sites.

“Many physicians who come through our residency program are surprised to find that we have over 50 specialists practicing in our regional hospital in Owen Sound, and an excellent network of community hospitals,” says Lance Thurston, GBHS president and CEO. “Residents get a broad range of work opportunities at GBHS that they may not get in an urban centre, and the recreational activities in our region are a huge draw. We’ve had a number of residents spend time with us, and after they graduate, they move here full time, which makes the medical education program an excellent recruitment tool.”

The new group of 15 physicians includes an Orthopedic Surgeon, Anesthesiologist, ear, nose and throat specialist, Obstetrician/Gynecologist, and an Internist.

There area also two new Emergency Medicine physicians in Owen Sound, one Emergency Medicine physician in Southampton, three Hospitalists and four family physicians working within Grey and Bruce communities and hospitals.

Grey Bruce Health Services is still looking for a Youth Psychiatrist, General psychiatrist, emergency medicine, and family physicians.

Dr. Kseniya Troyan completed her residency training in Alberta and is now working in the Emergency Department in Owen Sound.

“We moved to Owen Sound in March, but we have been coming to the area for years to hike, canoe, and camp,” says Troyan. “After completing my residency, I was looking for a friendly and supportive place to start my medical practice. It was great to find a warm welcome in the Owen Sound ER.”
