Grey Bruce Poverty Rates Above Canada Average

The latest research from a group working to end child poverty in Canada shows 147 federal ridings have child poverty rates higher than the 19% national average

Parts of Grey and Bruce County have poverty rates between 20 and 30 per cent.

Poverty in Huron, Perth and Wellington Counties sits between 10 and 20 per cent.

Campaign 2000 has released a map of each riding showing poverty rates, and it is calling on all parties to address the problem.

The organization is using the upcoming Thanksgiving weekend remind people of what it calls a Canada's child poverty epidemic with 1.3-million Canadian children living in poverty.

Campaign 2000 says countless communities hold food drives, to assist local needy families, and it is time for federal politicians to show leadership and commit to concrete action against child poverty if they form the next government.

The poverty map used the latest data from Statistics Canada.
