Groundbreaking For Soccer Fields In Walkerton

An official groundbreaking triggered the building process of the new soccer fields in the East Ridge Business Park in Walkerton.

The groundbreaking ceremony took place Monday afternoon at the site in the East Ridge Business Park.

Jeff Roberts is the president of Walkerton Minor Soccer.

"We've been actively at this for 7 years now. It's been a long journey," says Roberts. "We envision other things, other uses as well. More than just soccer."

Donations from businesses and the community topped $235,000 which allowed Brockton council to officially endorse the project last week. The plan is to build three full-sized fields and two mini-fields and to have them ready in July of next year. The winning tender for the project came in at $963,000.

Stantec is the designing firm and TDI Inc. is the contractor.
