Saugeen Shores Door To Door Fire Safety Campaign

Residents in Port Elgin and Southampton may want to double check their fire safety gear.

As part of Fire Prevention Week, members of the Saugeen Shores Fire Department will knock on doors tomorrow evening.

They'll be checking on the location and age of smoke alarms and carbon monoxide alarms

Residents are being urged to place a smoke alarm in each bedroom to "hear the beep where you sleep."

Alarms should be replaced every 10 years.

You should test your alarm monthly, change the batteries annually, and vacuum the unit regularly.

Most fatal fires occur at night. It's the law to have a smoke alarm outside of all sleeping areas.

Firefighters will conduct a voluntary safety check between 7 and 8:30 tomorrow evening.
