Owen Sound Based Group Gets Money For Consortium

A consortium based in Owen Sound is getting over $2.6-million in federal money to help the manufacturing sector.

The Excellence in Manufacturing Consortium of Canada is a non-profit organization that helps manufacturers grow by sharing ideas and resources. The federal money will be used to develop a new Labour Market Information and web portal for the manufacturing sector.

This funding comes from the government's Employment and Social Development Canada’s Sectoral Initiatives Program. It funds partnership-based projects that are national in scope.

The portal will provide Canadians with easy and up-to-date information on the manufacturing sector, including aiding students and job seekers in making informed education and career choices. It will also help employers plan their human resources needs.

“There is simply not enough relevant intelligence available for manufacturers to generate the critical action plans for employee/labour skills and capabilities planning,” says Al Diggins, president and general manager of EMC, and chairman/CEO of Canadian Manufacturing Network. “This project will create a cohesive resource which connects industry’s needs with effective Labour Market Intelligence solutions that will help generate productivity and competitive advantage does not exist today.”

Bruce-Grey-Owen Sound MP Larry Miller made the presentation today.
