Hogweed Removal Under Bayfield Bridge Delayed

Bluewater's Bayfield Ward councillor says it may take a while to get rid of the Giant Hogweed along the Bayfield River east of the bridge.

Bill Whetstone says the Hogweed is not on municipal land but is on MTO and private property.

Whetstone adds the MTO has agreed to deal with their property and the municipality has been talking with the private landowner.

"I was down there myself and I was shocked as to how much there is down there and how many people were down there and didn't know what it was," Whetstone tells CKNX News.

He says contact with the sap from the Giant Hogweed can result in a very painful burn when exposed to sunlight.

Whetstone says the municipality has put up signs warning people to stay away until they can get crews in who have the expertise to deal with the Giant Hogweed plants.
