Ash Borer Found In Kincardine

Saugeen Conservation is warning people, once again, not to move firewood from one region to another.

It's because that is the easiest way for the Emerald Ash Borer to move from one location to another. The tree-killing insect has now been confirmed in the Town of Kincardine.

Manager of Forestry with Saugeen Conservation Jim Penner says there is a treatment service for highly-valued ash trees, and the process must be done between June and the end of August to ensure that eggs and larvae have been destroyed. The treatment ranges from $100 to $500 per tree, depending on it's size, and provides protection for up to two years. The application may have to be repeated, depending on conditions.

The Emerald Ash Borer first made its appearance in the United States and Canada in the 1990’s and has killed between 50-million to 100-million ash trees.
