Huron East Mayor Calls For Service Review After Increased Burden On Taxpayers

The Mayor of Huron East is asking his council to conduct a review of the services it delivers to residents of the municipality.

Bernie MacLellan says he wants to look at whether some services could be delivered more efficiently and if some services could be eliminated altogether.

"I would like council to do a cost-benefits analysis on the services that we provide," MacLellan tells CKNX News, "Are the rate payers getting a bang for their buck? And do we need to provide all the services that we provide now."

MacLellan points out with shrinking funding from the Ontario Municipal Partnership Fund the burden to taxpayers is increasing significantly every year.

MacLellan adds some councillors are reluctant to consider cutting or reducing services in their ward so he's suggesting a third person conduct the review rather than have it done by council or staff.

MacLellan adds the number of councillors for Huron East should be one of the issues under review.

MacLellan says he'll bring a motion forward at the next council meeting to send out RFPs for a consultant.
