The tenth anniversary of the Huron County Clean Water Project was celebrated last week with a bus tour of projects that have been funded over the past ten year.
The Project is the flagship program of the Water Protection Steering Committee and Central Huron Mayor Jim Ginn is the current Chair of the Water Protection Steering Committee.
He points out over the past ten years the project has funded over two thousand projects with over three million dollars in funding from the county and that generates two to three times as much money put in by the landowners.
Ashfield-Colborne-Wawanosh Reeve Ben Van Diepenbeek was the first Chair of the Project and explains the Water Protection Steering Committee was created to fill the void that was left with the demise of the Healthy Futures Program.
Susanna Reid is with the Planning Department and has been organizing and co-ordinating the Steering Committee meetings from the beginning.
She points out the project wouldn't be the success it has been without the co-operation of all of the players.
All of the funding for the Clean Water Project comes from the county and is administered by the Ausable Bayfield and Maitland Valley Conservation Authorities.
