Meaford Training Centre Has New Commanding Officer

The soldiers of the 4th Canadian Division Training Centre, Meaford have a new commanding officer.

He is Lieutenant Colonel Christian Lillington, a veteran with tours in East Timor and Afghanistan. Lillington will be the commanding officer at CDTC Meaford for the next two years.

Lillington took over command of the base from Lieutenant Colonel Bryan Bedard in a change of command parade and ceremony at the training base Thursday evening. Bedard, a veteran of Kosovo and Afghanistan, assumed command of the training base in 2013.

Captain Sean Newman says during Bedard’s two years as commander, "one of his biggest achievements was establishing a positive relationship with the Military Family Resource Centre. He thus ensured that soldiers’ families were shown the appreciation they deserve."

Sitting at a table on the parade square, Bedard and Lillington signed copies of the Change of Command protocol.

Also taking part the signing over ceremony was Brigadier General Lowell Thomas, commander of the 4th Canadian Division.

Newman says Lillington’s leadership will provide the training centre "with leading edge thinking on training of the next generation of Canadian soldiers."
