Greenpeace has some significant safety concerns with the five-year license renewal handed to Bruce Power for all eight reactors.
Green Peace and the Canadian Environmental Law Association claim Bruce Power failed to submit a safety case for the rebuild, and submitted incomplete nuclear emergency plans.
The groups both testified at public hearings last month that Bruce Power should do a comprehensive site wide assessment which would look at the combined risk of Bruce A and B stations.
Instead, Bruce Power has assessed the risk of the Bruce A and B stations as separate entities.
Greenpeace Senior Nuclear Analyst Shawn-Patrick Stensil calls it a rushed rubber stamping by the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission.
Stensil says historically the two stations have been given separate operating licenses as a single license reduces the chances for public scrutiny.
He says Bruce A should have been given a shorter license as those reactors are being rebuilt over the next five years.
Stensil noted that the formal ruling request filed by Greenpeace wasn’t even mentioned in the decision published by the CNSC.
