Bruce Power Licence Good For Five More Years

Canada's nuclear regulator has renewed Bruce Power's Reactor Operating Licence for five years.

There were public consultations held in Kincardine in mid-April and a number of groups made presentations during those meetings.

Presenters included neighbouring municipalites, Saugeen Ojibway Nation, Greenpeace Canada and the Canadian Environmental Law Association.

The latter two groups wanted to see a two year licence renewal instead of the five year.

The renewal application covered Bruce Nuclear Generating Stations A and B.

“We are pleased with this result and were quite frankly humbled by the support offered by the many organizations and individuals who made presentations at the public hearings,” says Duncan Hawthorne, Bruce Power’s president and CEO. “We believe we require two licences – our operating licence from the regulator and our social licence, which is granted by our community, and we have to earn both of those each and every day.”

Agendas, hearing transcripts and information on the hearing process are available at the CNSC website at www.nuclearsafety.gc.ca.
