Avon Maitland Board to Revise School Accommodation Review Policy

The Avon Maitland District School Board is in the process of revising its Accommodation Review Policy.

Superintendent Mike Ash says they are required to come up with a polity that reflects the guidelines issued by the Ministry back in March.

The new guidelines include a more defined role for municipalities in terms of consultation, and in the event an accommodation review is recommended, the board has to be more proactive in seeking municipal input into the solution.

The time line for an accommodation review has been shortened to five months.

Members of the accommodation review committee can provide alternatives to the recommendations from staff, as long as they provide rationale for them. But they do not vote and they do not have to agree on the information that is provided to the trustees for their consideration.

Ash adds staff will present a draft of a new policy to the trustees for their consideration at their June meeting and that draft will mirror very closely the guidelines set out by the Ministry.
