Strike Avoided For Buses In Owen Sound Area

Bus riders in the Owen Sound area will not need to worry about temporarily losing their route due to strike.

On Thursday, the city said they received a 72-hour notice of strike action, which meant transit drivers would have walked off the job at 12:01 am Sunday, along with Owen Sound transit drivers. That would have taken  110 drivers off the road in the Owen Sound and Wiarton areas, including city bus drivers in Owen Sound.

The Student Transportation Consortium posted on their website last night that First Student and Unifor have ratification and full acceptance of a labor agreement.

This means that all bus routes will be running as usual and picking up students on Monday.

The deal provides for wage increases of between 5.5 per cent and 8.5 per cent over three years, and other improvements.
