Wes For Youth Online Cuts Ribbon On New Facility

The Wes For Youth Online Resource Centre held its grand opening in Walkerton for a facility offering mental health support throughout the region.

It will be a home base for the organization that offers support to youth through counselling and other resources.

Support for the facility came from communities in Grey-Bruce along with 130-thousand dollars from the Aviva Community fund.

Yolanda Cameron, the mother of the late Wes Cameron, who the organization is named after, says she still can't believe the support the group has had in the region.

"It's just incredible," Cameron said "Individuals, businesses and other organizations they continue to support us which is great."

Currently Wes For Youth offers online counselling and resources, and Cameron says the building will allow them to take other approaches to the subject.

"We can have more face to face counseling and use the building to meet with organizations and let them use our facility for their services."

The idea to start Wes For Youth Online came from some conversations in the Cameron household, who were dealing with the loss of son and brother Wes. Cameron says it is still hard to think about but is proud of herself and the organization for what they are able to offer to those who need support.

"Some days are really hard." She said. " But if we can do what we can to show it is okay to talk about it and look for help."

This week is also Mental Health Week, with the goal for 2015 being to 'get loud' about mental health and raise awareness and support.
