Residents Turn Out To Save Rostock Hall

The cost of upkeep drove the municipality to look at alternatives to owning the building which is in need of almost $200,000 in renovations for a variety of issues relating to its age.

The Perth County Federation of Agriculture holds the current lease on the building and Darryl Terpstra spoke on behalf of area residents.

"We suggested, as Perth Federation of Agriculture, to enter into an agreement with Perth East to extend the lease of the Rostock Hall for one year to allow the community group of Ellice Optimists time to figure out a plan on how to fund the hall, and take it over as a community group to run the expenses," says Terpstra. "The community of Rostock really dug in their heels and put forth a good foot that they wanted to save the facility because in conjunction with the park it makes a difficult separation."

The Rostock Hall in the township of Ellice has been a concern for the county due to the age of the facility, but area residents believe the cost of selling the building could be far higher than any repairs.

The hall hosts a wide range of local groups five to six times a week and they're dedicated to making sure that it stays that way.
