Perth East Taxes Rising

Perth East Council has approved a 2015 spending plan that will mean an increase in the total residential tax rate of 4.12 per cent.
Mayor McMillan says extreme revenue reductions from the Ontario Municipal Partnership fund made it impossible to maintain service levels without an increase .
The budget includes money for the Newton Pavilion and Newton Park Washrooms, as well as energy efficiency improvements at the Perth East Recreation Complex.
Capital spending will include replacing neccessary equipment, and a multi use walking trail on former rail land from Mill Street East to Line 61.
Some road work will be done on Line 39,  Line 40 and Road 140.
The tax increase will equal an extra 174 dollars a year on an average single family home.
