Westario Defends Winter DisconnectsApril 17, 2015 10:45am
Westario Power is defending its practice of performing disconnects in the winter months.
Company President and CEO Lisa Milne says Westario is in the business of providing power but makes every effort to help customers who are unable to pay their monthly bill.
Westario has been criticized for disconnecting some customers during the coldest parts of the winter.
Under its collection policy, if a bill is outstanding five days after the due date, a reminder notice is mailed. If a bill is outstanding for a minimum of 12 days, a notice of disconnection is mailed out.
Westario disconnected four services in January, none in February, and 13 in March.
Milne adds if there is a way to improve the system it will be done.
