Salt Pile Damaged In Vanastra

Vandals have caused thousands of dollars damage to a huge stockpile of salt in Vanastra.

OPP officers were called to the Saltco Incorporated business in Vanastra this week, after the owner reported damage to the large stockpile of salt.

Police determined that suspects climbed onto the top of the salt pile and cut the straps that held the large tarps in place. This caused numerous salt bags to shift and fall, creating a large hole in the center of the salt pile.

They also cut large holes in the tarps, which allowed water to penetrate into the salt pile, causing further damage.

The cost to repair the tarps and re-pile the salt is estimated to be between $5,000 and $7,000.

Huron OPP is asking nearby residents or anyone passing by to contact police immediately if trespassers are seen in the area of the salt pile.
