Later this year, residents within a 50 km range of Bruce Power will be told of some enhanced ways they will be helped in the event of a nuclear emergency.
The Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission set up the new regulatory requirements last year.
Officials plan to have an increased number of storage locations for the distribution of potassium iodide pills.
Also, more information will be provided using new communications tools.
The northern range will reach Wiarton while the southern range will reach into Huron County.
Residents living within a 10-mile radius will now be able to pick up and store iodide pills in their homes. The tablets have a ten-year life span.
A website, www.bepreparedgreybrucehuron.com has been launched and provides tips on what to do in the event of a fire, flood, tornado, winter storm or nuclear emergency.
Information packets will be mailed out this month to 1,500 residents and businesses within the 10 km range.
Locally, Bruce Power, Kincardine and the Grey Bruce Health Unit worked together to come up with the new plan.
