Over 1,000 elementary students with the Upper Grand District School Board will compete in the Technological Skills competition this week in Guelph.
A total of 54 schools from the region are taking part, which is 22 more schools than last year.
The competition will be held at three sites: Centennial Arena, College Heights Secondary School, and Centennial CVI.
Students compete in events such as construction, Lego mechanics, technology, video, health and character animation.
The competition on Thursday runs from 10am until 2pm at the venues on College St. W and the Hanlon Expressway.
In all, there will be 259 teams vying for a chance to move on to the Skills Ontario Finals May 4-6tat RIM Park in Waterloo.
"The competition places an emphasis on the value, and fun, of technology, which is supported by Skills Canada Ontario and our own elementary Take Tech initiative," says Chad Reay, the elementary curriculum leader. "We also have a strong partnership with our Specialist High Skills Major and the Ontario Youth Apprenticeship Programs that lets us promote hands-on learning opportunities."
