High School Graduation Rates Up In Grey-Bruce

The high school graduation rate across Bruce and Grey counties is trending upwards.

Information released today by the Bluewater District School Board shows its 2013-14 graduation rate was 82 percent.

By comparison, the graduation rate for the Bluewater District School Board in 2004-05 was 71 percent, based on the board’s calculation methods of the day.

Meanwhile, the Bruce-Grey Catholic District School Board reports that its five-year graduation rate is 88 per cent, compared with 84 per cent for the province.

The four-year rate is 81 per cent, compared with 76 per cent for the province.

"We are encouraged by the upward trend of our graduation rates over the past several years, which represents the hard work and dedication of all our staff. Through this new provincial approach, we look forward to tracking trends and accomplishments that will further inform our Board Improvement Plan for Student Achievement," says Bluewater Director of Education Steve Blake.

The upward trend can be attributed to programming changes such as dual credits, expanded cooperative education opportunities, e-learning courses, the Specialist High Skills Major program, Ontario youth apprenticeships and credit recovery.
