Meaford Teacher Citizen of The Year

A high school teacher who also helps students choose the right courses of study has been named the Citizen of the Year for 2014 by Meaford Rotary Club.

Amy Teed-Acres was honoured at the 17th Annual Meaford Chamber of Commerce Community Awards Dinner and Presentation Saturday night.

As well as teaching English at Georgian Bay Secondary School, Teed-Acres also coaches in the school’s Student Success. This program involves Teed-Acres helping students select the best courses for them to take.

She also directs a group of her students in helping elementary school students improve their literacy skills.

Rotarian Bernard Brunner presented Teed-Acres with a plaque from Meaford Rotary Club. He also presented her with a framed letter of congratulations from MPP Bill Walker.

“When we invest in the kids in our community,” she said, “we are investing in our community.”

About 140 Meaford Chamber members and guests attended the Awards Night at the Meaford and St. Vincent Community Centre.
