Consultant Will Help Huron County Attract Residents

A consultant hired by Huron county to help with economic development potential says there is no quick solution to the fact that young people are leaving.

Ron Gaudet says there has to be a focus on creating a region that will attract new people; create an entrepreneurial culture that will keep young people here; help our existing business base find new markets; and attract new investment into the region.

Gaudet points to Huron County's traditional commitment to agri-business and manufacturing, but adds those businesses have changed and we have to adapt to those changes. He feels there are new opportunities in fields like health care, post-secondary education and the service industry.

Gaudet also believes educators need to be more aware of the gap between the skills that are available and the skills the market is looking.
