Huron County Gets New Medical Officer Of Health

Huron County has hired a new full-time medical officer of health.

Health Board Chair Tyler Hessel announced today that Dr. Janice Owen will officially become the county's acting full-time MOH on April 7 and become the full-time MOH after completing the province's requirements for specialized public health courses.

Hessel explains Owen is currently working in Toronto but has a summer home in Huron County and grew up in the area so she is familiar with life in Huron County and he adds that was a big plus in getting her to come back to Huron.

Hessel also points out that having a full-time MOH was an important step in creating a new strategic plan for the health unit because it was felt the MOH should have input into that plan.

Clinton physician Doctor Maarten Bokhout has been the county's MOH since Dr. Nancy Cameron was relieved of her duties more than a year ago.

Medical officers of health from London and Perth County have been filling in since the beginning of this year.
