Hanover Wins OEDC Award

The Town of Hanover has won an Ontario Economic Development Award for its Facade Incentive Program.

Mayor Sue Paterson and Communications Coordinator Savanna Schaus accepted the award in Hamilton last night.

The program was introduced last year, as the second phase of Downtown Revitalization.

12 downtown commercial properties were successful in securing funds to make structural and visual improvements.

A more inviting downtown is expected to attract more consumers and investors.

The first intake saw $72,022.74 in grants result in $282,789.32 invested in the visual and structural improvement of downtown properties. Another round of funding is expected to be made available in March.

It received top nods in the Public Private Investment category for an region under 10,000.

“It’s an honour to be recognized by our peers from across Ontario and we’re ecstatic to call our Façade Incentive Program an award winning program” says Schaus.

“Council is pleased by the results of the program and looks forward to what our Downtown Revitalization Implementation Committee will accomplish with a second intake in 2015. The program has made a very positive impact on downtown Hanover and the commitment by our business community to invest in their properties and our downtown has gained local, regional and now provincial recognition” says Mayor Paterson.
