Huron Health Warns of Alcohol Cancer Risk

Cancer Care Ontario has identified a link between the consumption of alcohol and the risk of a number of forms of cancer as well as other diseases.

Huron County Public Health Promoter Annie Lukacsovics explains the Canadian Cancer Society recommends women have less than one drink per day, and men have less than two drinks a day.

Lukacsovics points out that saving up those one or two drinks a day and drinking them all on the weekend is also not appropriate.

Lukacsovics explains there is no safe level of alcohol consumption for avoiding cancer but reducing consumption to any degree is helpful. She also notes that combining smoking and drinking also increases the risk of cancer.

Lukacsovics adds anyone who is concerned about their alcohol consumption or has any questions can contact the Huron County Health Unit at 482-3416.
