Local Initiative Honouring Fallen OPP Officers Featured At Huron-Bruce Awards

Huron-Bruce MPP Lisa Thompson handed out her Huron-Bruce Outstanding Citizen Awards in Teeswater on Wednesday night.

Among the 17 nominees was Huron OPP officer Patrick Armstrong of Zurich, who accepted the award on behalf of the Dave Mounsey Memorial Fund.

The DMMF, which is based out of Zurich, has donated 38 defibrillators across Ontario since it was formed in 2009.

While the defibrillator donations are in honour of Ontario police and firefighters who have died on the job, its namesake comes from the region.

Constable Dave Mounsey was killed in a car accident near Wroxeter back in 2006. The 50-year-old was responding to a call when the accident occurred.

“It’s our duty as the living to always speak about those who have gone before us, that’s how they continue to exist.” Armstrong told CKNX News after the announcement.

The organization honours a number of fallen officers from the area, including Constable Vu Pham who was killed during a traffic stop near Leadbury, north of Seaforth, in 2010. The defibrillator named in Pham's honour is featured at the Wingham police station.
