Brockton Considers Buying Brant Central P.S.

The Municipality of Brockton is considering buying the old Brant Central Public School and turning it into a new soccer complex.

Councillor Chris Oberle informed council that he's been talking with Bluewater District School Board trustees about buying the now-closed facility. After getting a blessing from council, Oberle agreed to set up a tour of the property with the trustees.

Council had previously agreed to build the $1.3 million facility on their property at the East Ridge Business Park.

Oberle said the school would offer a better and safer location for kids, while also leaving prime business area open for possible development.

"If we're trying to promote an industrial park, then putting a soccer facility right smack-dab beside it, isn't really the best use of the property," Oberle said when asked why they would consider buying another property for the project. "There's also a safety issue with building the facility up there."

Oberle told CKNX News after Monday's meeting. "A lot of players bike or walk to the exiting facility and having it in Eastridge would require parents to drive their kids there."

Oberle says the local minor soccer association are in favour of both locations. The Bluewater District Board has already received an offer from a third party to buy the school, that has been closed since 2012.
